Pete Rose
Since I am from Cincinnati I always hear a lot about him here. I am wondering if any of you really think he was in the wrong with what he did. If any of you do not know he used to be a Cincinnati Reds player and manager. He got kicked out of baseball for betting for the Reds.

I do not have a problem with him betting per sey. But betting on your own team is unethical, and yes he should have been kicked out for that. No it does not change how he affected the game as a manager or a player, but he crossed the line in my book and apparently other as well.

That was the biggest problem that he bet on his own team. I sure bet he wishes he had never done that now. Live and learn as they say.

You can want you team to win. But the problem is betting on you own team... that is what is comes down too. Against the rules, he knew that for years.

But why is it against the rules? I do not see any reason why it shouuld be. And also Pete Rose was told he would not be kicked our or anything but in the end those were just lies and he was kicked out anyways.

I would also like to know why it is against the rules? There must be some reason for that.

Now to answer the question as why it is against the rules, it was listed in the major league constitution under misconduct. Betting on other teams is a 1 year ineligibility, and betting on own team is a permanent ban from the game. The baseball rules govern all aspects of the game, and the players outside of the area of play. The primary cause for lifetime banishment, according to the Commissioner's office, is that the banned person violated or otherwise tarnished the integrity of the game.
Although there are some exceptions and Pete Rose has taken full advantage of those exceptions. And in case you did not know, he is not the first person to be be punished for this act. |

It is against the rules because if you are betting on the sport then you could try to rig the games. For example, you could bet that your team will lose a game. Since you are the manager you could play the worse players you have and get them all to play horribly. That way you would win your bet.

I understand that it's against the rules, but I think Rose should be reinstated and voted into the hall of fame. He was one of the best players of all time, and there are a lot of players dooing a lot worse things now that will probably end up in the hall.
