It was a shocker, he betted on the team he was coaching to win... SO WRONG! (sarcasm)
The same year umpires, you know the guys who actually do effect a game were caught betting too, but they were readmitted. Double standards?

You should be admitted due to your performance on the field not by your actions off the field. It is the baseball hall of fame not the I never gambled hall of fame.

What is even more annoying is the fact that is for years they always told him that if he admitted to doing it he would be reinstated. However, once he did they were like, we will not admit you now because you lied. It seems they lied too...

This reflects my point exactly, and gambling never physically enhanced his ability to play the game so as long as he wasn't throwing the games he was involved in then he should be inducted into the hall of fame

Betting on the team you manage is unethical? Why is that? he manages his team and coaches them to win. To have confidence in the players you have spent so much time on to train them to win and then placing a bet saying you think they will win is bad? I do not see the logic. If he bet against his team, that would be bad, but for his team, there is nothing at all wrong with that. He was paid to lead them to victory and to be that confident in them to place a bet on them is good.

I read that professional boxer Winky Wright bet a large sum of money on himself to win, thereby more than doubling his payday when he did, and a lot of people applauded him for the amount of confidence he showed in himself. I really don't see how what Rose did was any different

I agree betting on your own team is not the way the way to go so I am sure he wishes that he did not do that.

Ferru is an unknown quantity at this point
I disagree.

If he had bet against the Reds, then there would obviously have been a conflict of interest. But I see nothing unethical or damaging in him betting for his own team. The phrase 'victimless crime' springs to mind...

I agree with you. Pete Rose should have been applauded. He coached his team to victory and he was so confident that his team was going to win that he put his own personal money on the line.

It's almost like they are punishing him for confidence, in my opinion there are a lot of other things going on in pro sports( baseball in particular) that should be worried about before Pete
