Since you are a "newbie" perhaps you won't laugh at my ignorance, but could you tell me what a "lay" is?

Don't know about hens, I get our fish eggs from Sevruga at Tesco Internet.
I'm glad I don't back horses, when an expert like CountryKen is still in loss, what hope do mere mortals have?
But then perhaps horses are for "fun" not making consistent profits day after day like trading US shares.....maybe that's why backing horses is called a "sport".
Personally I would find losing money no "fun"at all...........
