Poker Tells

There are a lot of so called "tells" in a poker game where you if you have the right skill set can tell if a player have a good or bad hand.

Which is the one you look for the most?

For me it is easy tell when a player looks a lot and seem to count his/hers chips. Then they usually have a good hand.

With bad hands a common tell is that the player try to represent strength to make an illusion that they have good cards.

It usually takes me a few hands to really get to know the other players but everyone has some physical demonstration when they’re bluffing. The body reacts on a subconscious level so if you can watch for that tick you’ll gain a big advantage. Interestingly there was a study done about the time of the President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky scandal that showed that people often touch their nose frequently when they are lying. It’s kind of interesting to go back and watch the videos and see how many times he touched his nose when talking about his relationship with her.

If the flop is all of one suit and a player peeks, it usually means they have one card of the same suit but they can't remember which card it is.

That's why you should always look once and only once at your pocket cards.

You definitely need to play the players and not worry about your cards. You just need to get used to peoples mannerisms, as they all have 'em. When the cards are dealt, leave your cards and look at all at the table as they look at their cards. You'd be astonished, they all make gestures.

Most of the signs about a hand are subtle little things. Before playing in any hand I always sit back and watch the other players go at it for 3-5 hands. I watch to see their reactions and gestures that they make. After a couple of hands I have learned a lot about them.

I usually do the same and the number of hands depends on how easy the other players are to read. You can usually tell after a few hands only though.
