Common mistakes made playing poker

Over the 10 years I have been playing I have noticed quite alot of common mistakes players make. I did some of them in the beginning too and learnt from my mistakes.
I thought to help all newbies I should start this thread and everybody can help fill it with mistakes to avoid. Here is my first tip:

Do not stay in a game just because you have put so much money in the pot. If you cards are not good enough you will probably just loose more. Give it up and get out in time.

This is very important. I always follow one principle -10 is better than -20 or more.So it is always better to be realistic and get out in time.

I think another important thing to do is to not get carried away when one has got good hands.

Also rememebr that leaving a table and moving to another does not 'change your luck' the odds are the same on every table, if the night is not going well - stop!

The most common mistake is probably over confidence. You always see players getting a large stack and then blowing it because they get cocky. Never should you think you definitly have the best hand. There is always one that can beat you. For that reason alone you should be careful with how you raise. Never go all in. Once you lose you are done for.

That is very good advice. Though you may of committed a lot of chips into a hand that does not mean you must follow through with it and play to the end. Just cut your losses and do not make things worse for yourself.

Getting cocky is no good in the game of poker. You got to stay on the same level, focus on the current deal and try not to tell in anyway.
I believ you can go all in but that decision must come from a well thought strategy and not just because of over confidence.

That is why I try to be a modest player. I take no risks at all and I stay conservative so I cannot blow what I have. When I do lose the losses are minimal and easily remade.

yes you are right if you don't have good cards then you should not stay for more because you can loose more otherwise it can cause more trouble to your pocket

I Always used to make that mistake of keeping in the game but then i realized that it wasn't just going to miraculously swing my way so i decided against that tactic.
