Newbie Here

Hello. I've only played poker a few times, but I'm starting to become more interested as I see it growing in popularity on TV.

I was wondering what others thought of some of the players that wear sunglasses at the table?

I think it makes them look kind of insecure.

I think it's a matter of concealing their eyes,
so that the other player won't even catch a glimpse
of their eyes, which might reveal that they have a
good or bad hand.

A good player can read in your eyes if you have a good hand or you just bluffing. For this reason they wear sunglasses and, of course to look cool at the table .

Yes it is a known strategy for many players since a lot of people have a hard time not showing feelings and so on with eye and face expressions. Thats why I prefer online poker :-)

i agree with the insecure thing , goggles on a poker table proves the underconfidence theory ..though it might be a good ploy when you play around with a bunch of witty players

Although I like playing poker, I really can't advocate it being on TV; I couldn't stand to watch someone else play poker...seems way too long and slow at an observer's stand point.

I also have a hard time wathcing poker on TV. Even if it is good and you cna learn some stuff it is really no big excitement during the whole game.

I've watched a few games on TV, at first it's kind of interesting but then it just seems to be a bit dull - I love the way the commentators are just kind of having a chat on their own agenda and comment on the cards every 10 minutes or so, even when it's at crucial moments

I haven't watched it much on TV, but I'm surprised how popular it is.

I guess part of it is the celebrity factor, when well-known people are playing. I've seen people starting to play poker during down time at work, too.

Does it take something away?

It seems to me like it takes something away from the game when players wear glasses. I know there's more to read than just someone's eyes, but that's definitely a big factor.
