how do you keep from gambling too much

Does anyone find that they gamble too much? I don't gamble but I am just wondering if you really got into playing for money how you make sure you don't get carried away?

I have a rule that I only take so much money and when that is gone I am done. Now if I win I take a certain amount out to take home and play with the rest to try to win more. I pretty much have always followed this.

I think for myself this works... Anything I can afford to lose, so that I am not speding the rent or grocery money or putting yourself into debt because of your habits.
I also find that people take the fun out of it, if the money means to much. I bet and play poker regualarly, but treat it as entertainment, not as a means to make money. I do pretty well with this strategy and in turn am free to lose tonights monies and feel fine and when I win it is an extra surprise, though I am getting pretty consistent.

Well this is all about self control. Learn to handle yourself and your money before getting in to gambling to much.

First of all you must control yourself. After, you have to manage your budget. If you're able to handle the both - you're not gambling at all.

You just have to set limits on how much you lose (but never set limits on how much you win, because thats just stupid).

I never bring more than I am willing to lose. That way I cannot end up losing more then I can deal with. It is actually a great way of money management.

I set a limit for myself. I carry cash with me in my purse and once that cash is gone, I can't/won't take any more out of the ATM. It is tempting at times, but I won't allow myself to do it.

I think just taking a certain amount with you is an excellent idea. But don't people then sometimes use a credit card or bet in other ways if they have a gambling problem?

I carry my credit cards, but I have a decent amount of control over myself not to go too crazy. Maybe go a little over the set limit..not crazy over though.
