Poker help books

Has anybody ever read one of those tutorial strategy book for learning how to play poker? Are they any good or are you jus throwing away money. I am really curious to whether or not they teach you just the basics or finer points to the game.

I did so when I started out. Now when I read about poker is mostly online in forums like this. Just to keep up with all that is new. All you want is available online. Google is one of your best friends.

I read some from time to time. I have a few in my bookcase but none of them is really anything for high level poker, more like basics. Internet is an awesome resource when it comes to information on subjects like poker. Here you can find anything from beginner help to high level strategy talk.

Forums like betcamp is excellent for discussions on strategies and if you as a newbie need help you just have to ask a question.

I would imagine that it would be hard to read about. Poker is fun to play but not so fun to research. The best way to learn is from experience not from reading 400 pages of tips.

I wonder if they have a "Poker For Dummies" book. I like those books. I have read some of them and they are actually easy to read and entertaining.

I guess books could be interesting, but with all the interest it got in the later years, I'm afraid that many people are trying to cash in with random books...

The worst ones are the online ebooks. You have no idea what you are buying until you pay for them and then when you finally do see it you realize tha it is just the same old basic tips that you can get off any website for free.

The tips in all of these books are mostly common sense ideas. It is nothing that a poker player would not be able to figure out just by knowing the rules of the game. I think they are a complete waste of money. The best way to learn is to play.
