Does anybody agree with me when I say taht I believ ADD is a made up disorder. I get so tired of hearing about all these kids with ADD. They do not have a disorder. They are just being kids. Just because they do not pay much attention in class or because they are tapping their hands and playing around does not mean they have ADD or any other problem doctors try to make up. The worse part is that more kids are being diagnosed with this fake disorder and being put on medication they do not need.

I am a parent of two sons and neither one has ADD. But I don't agree that it is a made up disorder. I do feel that dr's and some parents jump the gun and they are diagnosed with something that they may not really have. But I do feel that there are some kids that do genuially have ADD.

I ask this question sometimes. I believe that most of the kids who are diagnosed with ADD are just ordinary kids who have shorter attention spans. But some people really may have trouble focusing on anything at all... however I have yet to see someone like that.

I know I owuld much rather be outside playing, or drawing, or anything but be in school. These kids are the same way. They just do not want to be doing whatever boring thing comes their way. So they get hooked up on medication and told they have a problem. Does that seem wrong to anybody? All it takes is good parenting. The parent needs to just enforce the fact that there is a time to mess around and a time to take things seriously.

Isn't there now adults that are being diagnosed with ADD? I thought I had heard something about that but don't remember where I heard it.

There probably are some adults being diagnosed for it. If so it is not nearly so relevant which to me sort of shows that it is not a real disorder.

I think that it is a real disorder for some people. However, I also think it is a misdiagnosed disorder and children are being medicated just because their parents are too lazy to handle/discipline their out of control children.

When I was a kid my parents would just smack me a few times. That kept my "ADD" in line. These days kids do not get punished like that. No wonder you have so many kids with this "disorder."

This is very true. Most of the time, ADD is just an excuse for out-of-control children. I find it ridiculous to see students in class who are excused for being restless because they have ADD.

Parents and teachers perhaps need to be able to actually punish their kids more strictly. These days they would get in legal trouble if they hit their kid and they told somebody. I do not promote abuse but I think parents should be allowed to hit their kids to an extent to punish them.
