Backgammon is a game for just two players. Chouette on the other hand is for three or more players.

So why do they play chouette instead? Because there's too many of them to play backgammon.

RE: Why do people play Chouette rather than backgammon?

Hi friend,
The main reason why people play Chouette rather than backgammon is because it is a much more sociable version of the game. It allows for multiple players whereas backgammon only allows two players per game. This means that players do not have to wait so long for a game. They then get to play with other players and with some rules can even consult on their team's choice of move.

I wasn't aware that you could consult on the moves, that is an interesting change from the double game. I haven't played it myself, but I might see if I can figure out the rules for a game at home.

That's all well and good WallStreetr if you want to play just one on one! If anyone else wants to get involved then there isn't much you can do. It's not like its a different game hugely-your skill in chouette would still be relevant.
