Oh, no, I was afraid you might bring that up. That was a war and did not involve the U.S. acting all by itself. I'm talking more along the lines of Iraq, Vietnam, and Lebanon. Military action didn't work in any of these cases. I have a problem with America going around the world, establishing military bases in countries where they're not needed and the excuse they give us is that it increases national security. All it does is incite more hatred and make us an easy target while creating unnecessary casualties when we can bring such better results through diplomacy.

Now, to give examples where diplomacy worked, after the assassination of the Lebanese prime minister Hariri, the U.S. consulted the UN and worked with France to get the Syrian forces out of Lebanon. And of course, just about a month ago North Korea agreed to disable its nuclear facilities. Did we use military action there? Not at all. I'll quote Condoleezza Rice herself on this matter in case you need more convincing: "This is an exciting moment in U.S. foreign policy. Now that we have discovered this innovative new method, 'diplomacy,'our nation will no longer have to rely exclusively on more traditional forms of foreign relations such as mockery, insults and unilateral military action." I'll say, she's slow to catch on, but now give me an example in which the U.S. alone used military action to end a conflict.
